Reading research papers takes you to the edge of human knowledge
当你站在边缘的时候，你专注于：
Once you're at the boundary, you focus
你在边缘专攻了一些年
You push at the boundary for a few years
直到有一天，你在边界取得了一点突破
Until one day, the boundary gives way
而且，你所作出的突破被称为博士学位
And, that dent you've made is called a Ph.D.

这个《博士学位图解指南》不一定适用于所有专业，但是若从学科门类日益细化、专业化来看，又是没问题的。毕竟没有人能够在有限的生命里钻研所有学科专业。如果你要搞科研、还要同时去钻研物理、哲学、美学、机械、音乐……只能说，你在同一个方向钻研得还不够深了。
